The 24th of November, the anniversary of the renowned Portuguese scientist, Rรณmulo de Carvalho, has been celebrated as the National Day of Scientific Culture. This year, CETRAD’s team also joined the nationwide Science and Technology Week by organising a public discussion on rural quality of life.

A wide variety of stakeholders, from local business owners and employees, representatives of civil associations and government bodies as well as professors, researchers and students shared their views on what it means to live in low-density territories. The event also unpacked the benefits and challenges of local well-being by contrasting the opinions of current residents – people who were born in this region or chose to move here -, with the perspectives of those who left the region. The lively narratives will be used to refine the Well-being Barometer of Low-density Territories, an online, freely available, visualization tool of CETRAD that collects and displays a wide range of well-being-related information for residents, potential investors, leaders of well-being initiatives and government bodies.
